That's a grand old age for a gorilla to reach! I've never seen Animal Park, they don't show it over here- but I have heard of Nico! It must have been so upsetting when Samba passed away. It's great to hear that Nico is having a nice old age now though.

Wasn't it more a case of Samba protecting Nico, and the keepers, lol! If Nico was being grumpy towards the keepers, Samba would growl at him, telling him off, thus earning her the name of Angel. I've seen all the episodes of Animal Park, though it did get repeated a bit too much. I've been to Longleat several times, it's a really nice place with all those lovely trees, and all the crows and other birds that visit. A beautiful place to spend some time.

Since we last talked Salome at Bristol has had a baby, they still don't know what it is but she is looking after it very well as you can see if you catch a glimpse on the gorilla cams.
Sadly Okanda the baby at Twycross (born in about May) has been ill for 10 days or so and has been taken from Ozala his mother. He was improving last time they reported, I just hope Ozala will still have milk when he is well enough to go back with her.

That's really lovely about Salome, she seems such a wonderful, loving mother. I'm so happy for her- I hope Komale likes his new sibling!
So sad that Okanda had to be taken from Ozala, fingers crossed that he can go back to her successfully once he's recovered. It must be so worrying for the keepers to have a sick infant.

That's s shame she wan't caring for the baby properly, it would be really nice if she can take the infant back eventually. I imagine if that doesn't work out the infant will go to the nursery at Stuttgart?

I think that Bikira came from there. Fingers crossed that Kera learns from Salome and hopefully Romina also, and her baby won't end up thre when she has one.

Definitley fingers crossed. It's lucky that Kera has such good role models in her current group. It would be especially good if Romina could have another baby before Kera starts breeding as well. I wonder where Namoki will end up? I'm assuming they're going to move her to a different group. Namoki is a favourite of mine, Bristol Zoo was the first time I'd ever seen gorillas, and Namoki was a wee baby of one when I first saw her. They thought she was a he back then!

She's great, she has a reputation for being a very naughty girl who is always up to mischief and gets away with anything with Jock. It was she who started catching the poor little ducklings!

That's a shame that Bikira couldn't take Tano back, at least the infant can grow up with other gorillas though. It must be sad for the keepers to have to send Tano away and not be able to reintroduce him/her to mum. I've heard a lot about Okanda, he's gorgeous! I'm so pleased he's recovered so well, crossing fingers and toes that he'll be able to be happily reunited with Ozala.

I do wonder about this 'creche' process, Bikira was there and now her baby ends up there. I can't imagine they learn many manners just living with other babies and gorillas are so fussy. I hope Kera at Bristol has more success when she has a baby, she's certainly had a very long settling in period. At least the orangs at Monkey World had A-mei, an adult to interact with, not sure about Oshine as arole model.
