I sure hope people catch on to this forum... Let me introduce myself. My real name is Dawn Forsythe, and I live in Maryland, USA. I work for the federal government as a communications specialist, but my real job, as I see it, is writing a blog called Chimp Trainer's Daughter. Dad was a chimp trainer at the Detroit Zoo when they had those awful chimpanzee shows back in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. He was an abusive father and an abusive trainer, and he killed himself in 1967, a couple of years after the zoo fired him for throwing a chimp against the wall. It's a pretty awful story but I've found that it is compelling enough to attract readers outside of the normal "I love great apes" community. I hope to use the blog to demonstrate the similarities and differences between great apes and humans, so as to convince people to rise up against using great apes in research and entertainment. Please stop by my blog at chimptrainersdaughter.blogspot.com, and let me know what you think. Give me your ideas for new posts, too -- I'm always looking for an uplifting great ape story!

Hi Dawn,
I'm so glad you like the forum, I'm hoping it catches on too!
That must have been so terrible what you went through, it's good to hear that other's have been moved by your story and are learning more about chimpanzees as a result. I've had a look at your blog, I've found it to be a very interesting read and I'm sure it is a great educational tool helping to highlight how apes are suffering and why they deserve our help.
