I made this sit a while ago, but haven't introduced myself yet!
My name is Amy, I'm living in Australia at the moment and studying at uni towards my Bachelor of Science (Animal Behaviour). Since I was 12, the great apes have been my greatest passion, especially chimpanzees. I am very much interested in their behaviour and welfare, and my eventual goal is to be an chimpanzee caregiver at a sanctuary. (I will probably have to work in a zoo first)
I often visit apes at zoos as I love to watch and photograph them, and learn about their individual personalities. I most often visit Monarto Zoo as it is close to me, and has such wonderful chimpanzees, enclosures and staff. While at high school I did a week's work experience there, and as a one off on special request, I was able to spend an extra day helping the primate staff.
I adopt Seamus the chimpanzee at Monkey World in the UK, and have been doing so since I was 13- he's still my favourite chimp anywhere after all this time! Monkey World is one of the places I would most like to work with chimps because the vast majority of chimps are rescues and that's something I'd love to be involved in, to make a difference to their lives. As I was born in the UK it would be easier for me to move there than to move to the US to work in a sanctuary there.
Aside from apes, I am a general animal lover, with a particular interest in dogs, especially Salukis. I have a young Saluki named Bella and she is very special to me and my best friend. I am hoping to do a bit of showing with her in the future. I also enjoy art, I mostly do digital art of dogs (which I am taking commissions for) and Disney characters (animals of course!).
